The research team was established by Professor Yang Shie, and is led by Professor Piao Shengchun. The main research area of the team is underwater acoustic physics and its applications. The team mainly engages in the theoretical, technical and experimental researches of marine acoustics, underwater acoustic propagation, the characteristics of marine environmental noise field and reverberation field, the acoustics of sea floor sedimentary layer, VLF remote acoustic detection, underwater weak signal detection, extraction and identification of underwater target features, array signal processing, etc. In addition, the team carries out the development of related underwater acoustic equipment. Currently, the team has 5 professors, 2 associate professors and 4 lecturers. Since the 11th Five-Year Plan, the team has undertaken 8 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including one from the key program), and more than 20 projects from national defense, National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China (973 Program) and other commercial research fund. The team has won the first prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award for 3 times, second prize of which for twice, and third prize of which for 2 twice. Over the past decade, the team has trained 24 doctoral students and more than 110 master’s students, most of who work in the research institutes of underwater acoustics, such as Institute of Acoustics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Institutes of 715, 726, 710, 760, etc.), etc.; in research institutes of aviation, aerospace, electronics groups; in universities and colleges such as Ocean University of China, National University of Defense Technology, etc.; and in IT companies such as ZTE, Huawei and so on.
