The Underwater Target Characteristics Test and Control Technology Research Team led by Professor Yang Desen is focused on the test and control of the naval ships’ acoustic-frequency characteristics, vector hydrophone technology and application, nonlinear underwater acoustics and so on. Guided and supported by the major national research projects, the team is the first in China to advocate and carry out the fundamental and applied fundamental researches in vibration noise testing and evaluation for torpedoes, submarines and other underwater vehicles, and the related areas. The team has carried out a large number of fruitful research in the areas of underwater structure vibration noise testing and noise source identification, nonlinear underwater acoustics and noise control, acquisition and analysis of underwater target characteristics, underwater acoustic detection and localization of target, acoustic functionally graded material and acoustic performance test, vector hydrophone and hydrophone array, etc. It also carries out the development of related vector sonar equipment. It has gradually developed into a research team with distinctive features of national defense and advantages of the industry. Now, the team has 19 faculty members, including 9 professors (1 academician), 5 associate professors, and 2 lecturers. In the past five years, it has trained 21 doctoral students and 67 master’s students. The team won the “Innovation Team of Ministry of Education Award” in 2012, and the “National Defense Science and Technology Innovation Team Award” in 2016. The team members have won “Science and Technology Progress Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation”, Ma Dayou” Acoustic Award, “Cross-Century Talents”, Distinguished Professor of “Longjiang Scholar”, Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth, Heilongjiang Outstanding Youth, Heilongjiang May 4th Youth Medal and many other awards and honorary titles. Over the past decade, the team has undertaken 9 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 projects from National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China (973 Program), 1 innovation project from general armament department, and more than 30 projects from basic research of national defense technology, equipment pre-research and others. The total research funding received by the team is nearly 100 million yuan. The team has won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award twice, the first prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award once, second prize of which once, and third prize of which twice.
