Centered around the national key programs of science and technology on “marine environment monitoring and security assurance”, “key technologies and equipment for the deep sea”, “information acquisition and utilization in the sea battlefield”, etc. the team has been mainly working on the research areas of “underwater multi-beam target sensing theory and technology”, “serialized high frequency underwater acoustic detection equipment research”, “information acquisition and utilization in the sea battlefield”, “marine environment information acquisition and resource investigation” and so on. The team engages in the theoretical, technological and experimental study in the areas of seafloor topography and geomorphology detection, characteristics of the wakes of ships, underwater target detection and localization, imaging and information transmission, marine fishery, seafloor oil pipeline detection and sediment classification, nonlinear acoustic detection, underwater weak signal detection, feature extraction and identification, array signal processing, etc. The team also carries out the development, application, and commercialization of the related underwater acoustic equipment. Some of the technologies from the team have reached the advanced level in the world, and the leading level in China, in the aspects of fundamental research, technology development, commercialization and so on. The research achievements of the team have been promoted and applied in nearly 30 domestic units, in the applications of: the survey and determination of China-Russia boundary river, the survey of proving ground for underwater weapons, security assessment for offshore drilling platform, dredging of ports and river courses, underwater archaeology, and so on. In the past decade, the team has undertaken 3 projects from the National Science and Technology Major Projects and National Key Research & Development (R&D) Plan, 10 projects from the key program, general program and young scientists program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 3 projects from National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), 1 project from the Key Program for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, 7 projects from the Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China, and more than 10 projects from navalpre-research, national defense related, and commercial funded R&D projects. The team has won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 National Outstanding Patent Invention Award, and 2 first prize, 4 second prize, 4 third prize of provincial and ministerial level science and technology progress awards. The students from the team have won 2 silver medals, 1 bronze medal in the National Challenge Cup, and the first, second, third prizes of student competitions in Asia and provincial and ministerial level for more than 10 times. The team has applied for more than 30 national invention patents and software copyrights, and more than 20 of them have been granted. The team has published more than 100 papers, more than 60 of which are indexed by SCI and EI; and the team has published two textbooks. Currently, the team has 9 faculty members, including 3 professors and 4 lecturers. There are more than 40 doctoral and master’s students in the team.
