In 2023, the Key Laboratory of Polar Marine Acoustics and Technology Application of the Ministry of Education was approved as one of the first polar-oriented key laboratories of the Ministry of Education to start construction. The laboratory faces the major strategic needs of the country in the polar direction, focusing on the fundamental theories of acoustics in the special marine environment of the polar regions and the frontier technologies in the discipline, with a focus on polar marine acoustics environment and theory, underwater acoustics information technology in polar ice and trans-media, underwater acoustic detection technology in polar seafloor, and the construction of polar sound monitoring systems and platforms. It conducts interdisciplinary research in marine science and underwater acoustic technology, focusing on solving key problems in polar marine information perception and transmission. Conducting dedicated, regular research on polar marine acoustics and technology application with the laboratory as an innovation platform is of great significance for strengthening the key core technology support for polar ocean acoustics, enhancing the ability of China's polar governance, optimizing the construction of high-level talent team in the polar field and the gathering and cultivation of innovative talents, promoting the systematic construction of China's polar marine acoustics technology field and facilitating technology transfer and the formation of achievements.
