Presentation title: “The Research on the Marine Environmental Noise”
Presenter: Prof. David L. Bradley
Time: 10:00 am, April 13, 2018
Location: Academic lecture hall on the 15th floor of the Underwater Acoustic Engineering Building
Short Bio of the presenter:
David L. Bradley is Professor in School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering, University of New Hampshire. He retired from University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Senior Scientist in Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) and a Professor in Acoustics. He received BSc degree in Physics from Michigan Technological University in 1960, MSc degree in Physics from Michigan State University, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The Catholic University of America. His research areas include underwater acoustic propagation, the scattering of complex ocean boundaries, marine environmental noise and so on. Prof. Bradley was the Director of NATO Underwater Research Center, La Spezia, Italy, the Director of the Acoustic department in naval research laboratory (NRL), etc. The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and other related departments have granted him several awards for his groundbreaking contributions to the field of acoustics, including: Meritorious Civilian Service Medal in 1982; Superior Civilian Service Medal in 1993. He was the Chair of the underwater acoustic technology committee of ASA (1988-1991), the member of the executive committee (1991-1992), associate editor (1997-2001), etc.
Abstract of the presentation:
The marine environmental noise is an interference to the design and application of the sonar equipment and underwater acoustic equipment. Since the marine environmental noise is generated by different noise sources impacted by ocean boundaries, and hydrological conditions, it contains some valuable information. This presentation will introduce the applied researches on marine environmental noise.
