National Publishing Foundation project "Modern Underwater Acoustic Technology and Application Series"

The "Modern Underwater Acoustic Technology and Application Series" was initiated by the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering of Harbin Engineering University, with Academician Yang Desen as the chief editor and Professor Yin Jingwei as the executive editor. The series was compiled in cooperation with relevant underwater acoustic technology advantage units in the United States, covering the knowledge framework, technical system and latest scientific research results of science and technology in the field of underwater acoustic. Including basic theoretical research, engineering design and product research and development, covering the latest research results and developments at home and abroad in all research directions in the field of underwater acoustic and Marine information, the basic principles of underwater acoustic science and many applications are systematically discussed. The series consists of 30 volumes, all of which have been published.

The ocean covers about two-thirds of the Earth's surface area, but humans have explored only about five percent of the total ocean area. Due to the lack of means of obtaining information underwater, the depths of the ocean are almost dark, deep and unknown to us.

In the new era, implementing the strategy of becoming a maritime power, improving the ability to exploit Marine resources, protecting the Marine ecological environment, developing Marine science and technology, and safeguarding national maritime rights and interests are all inseparable from underwater sound science and technology. At the same time, China's long coastline, large coastal cities and numerous military important places, which have put forward higher requirements for the rapid development of underwater acoustic science and technology and its application.

Sound wave is the only effective carrier for underwater remote wireless transmission of information. Underwater acoustic technology uses sound waves to realize underwater detection, communication, positioning and other functions. It is equivalent to the eyes, ears and mouth of underwater equipment. It is a necessary technology for the exploration and development of Marine resources, the detection and positioning of naval ships, and the tracking and guidance of underwater weapons.

Since 1953, when the Chinese People's Liberation Army Military Engineering College (that is, "Harbin Military industry") created the country's first sonar major, after decades of development, China has built a large number of universities, research institutes and enterprises composed of underwater acoustic teaching, scientific research and production system. However, there is still a big gap between China's underwater acoustic basic research, technology research and development, underwater sound equipment and other countries with developed Marine science and technology, the country needs to continue to invest more resources, the need for more aspiring young people to invest in the cause of underwater sound, to achieve underwater sound technology from running to running to leading, and constantly inject new impetus for the development of Marine power.

Underwater acoustic science and technology is a high-tech field integrating multi-disciplinary acoustic electromechanical information. At present, there are only more than 10,000 underwater  acoustic  professionals in China, and the existing personnel scale and training scale can not meet the needs of the industry, and there is a serious shortage of underwater sound professionals.

Books are the ladder of human progress. One of the purposes of this series is to promote the cultivation of high-level talents in the field of underwater acoustics and to support the high-quality development of the subject. This series of books was initiated by the School of Underwater Acoustic Engineering of Harbin Engineering University and co-authored by the elite in teaching and research in cooperation with relevant domestic underwater acoustic technology superiority units. The series is comprehensive, accurate, simple and illustrated, and basically covers the knowledge framework, technical system, latest scientific research achievements and future development direction of modern underwater acoustic science and technology and application. Including vector acoustics, underwater acoustic signal processing, target recognition, reconnaissance, detection, communication, underwater countermeasures, sensors and sound systems, metrology and testing technology, Marine acoustic environment, ocean noise and reverberation, Marine bioacoustics, polar acoustics, etc. The publication of this series can be said to have emerged at the right time, and it is believed that it will play an important role in promoting the development of China's underwater sound cause and make new contributions to the implementation of the strategy of maritime power.

The "Modern underwater acoustic Technology and Application Series" aims at the strong demand for underwater acoustic technology in the field of national strategies such as "ocean power" and "One Belt and One Road", aiming to reflect the latest domestic research results, and promote the training of high-level talents in underwater acoustic technology and the improvement of the level of underwater acoustic technology in China. This series of books is accurate, simple, illustrated and rich in content, which is the right time for researchers and learners of underwater sound technology, and for the development of underwater sound career. The content of the series is aimed at high-level talents in the field of underwater sound, such as scientific researchers, technical engineers, senior undergraduates and postgraduates in universities. The publication of the series will play an important role in the training of high-level talents in the field of underwater sound in China, and will promote the development of China's underwater sound cause.
