Professor David Bradley and Professor Stanley Dosso are invited to be Visiting Professors
On April 18th, Professor David Bradley of the University of New Hampshire in United States and Professor Stanley Dosso of the University of Victoria in Canada were invited to be visiting professors. Professor Limin Yao, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Harbin Engineering University, met with the professors and attended the appointment ceremony in the VIP reception room on the 8th floor of the main building, to wear the university badge for them and issue the letter of appointment. Professor Jingwei Yin, Dean of the College of Underwater Acoustics Engineering, and other faculty representatives also attended the meeting.
“The development of our university’s underwater acoustic technology is in an important position in the field of acoustics at home and abroad”, Yao said to the professors. The cooperation with two professors will exert tremendous influence. It is hoped that two professors could join in the training of high-level talents and high-level scientific research to deepen the cooperation in research and other aspects.
David Bradley, Ph.D. of Catholic University of America, Professor of Pennsylvania State University and Professor of the University of New Hampshire, has long been engaged in research on underwater acoustic propagation, scattering from complex ocean boundaries, and ambient noise in the sea. He has served as director of the NATO Underwater Research Center, superintendent of the Acoustics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory, and mine warfare technical adviser of the Chief of Naval Operations. Professor Bradley has been awarded several awards by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the Navy for his pioneering contributions in the field of acoustics: the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1982; Superior Civilian Service Award in 1993 from the Department of the Navy; President of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) from 2012 to 2013. He has published nearly 100 high-level academic papers and scientific reports, winning a resonant reputation in international marine acoustic research field.
Professor David Bradley visited the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering and delivered postgraduate courses of “Ocean Acoustics” from March 31st to May 5th, in total 24 hours. During the visit, Professor Bradley also presented many academic reports to faculty and students of the college.
Stanley Dosso, Inaugural Professor of University of British Columbia and Dean of the College of Earth and Ocean Sciences in University of Victoria, Canada. He has long been engaged in the research on Bayesian method for submarine acoustic parameter sensing and target location tracking. He is a Fellow of the American Acoustical Society, a member of the American Geophysical Union and the Canadian Acoustics Association (the chairman from 2003-2007). In 2004, the American Acoustical Society awarded him the Medwin Award for Acoustic Oceanography in view of his outstanding achievements in the development of geoacoustic inversion and acoustic localization nonlinear technology. Victoria University awarded him Science Teaching Excellence Award In 2006. He has published more than 150 high-level journal papers, most of which were published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) and IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering.
