Yang Shie, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, born in 1931, male, Hannationality, member of Chinese Communist Party, professor, doctoral advisor.

One of the main founders and pioneers of China's underwater acoustic technology and education; one of the first recipients of the State Council special government allowances; national outstanding teacher. Professor Yang Shie graduated ahead of time from Tsinghua University, and joined the national defense education career in 1950. He became the first group of founders of Harbin Military Institute of Engineering in 1953, led and organized the first Sino-Soviet joint underwater acoustic comprehensive investigation in 1958, which laid the foundation of China's underwater acoustic technology.

Professor Yang’s research areas include underwater acoustic channel and sonar system environment, underwater acoustic target detection and localization, underwater acoustic transmission and receiving technology, and so on. He is universally acknowledged as an expert in underwater acoustics.

Professor Yang presided over many important and groundbreaking research projects in underwater acoustics. He won twice the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, twice the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (CSTIND), and more than 10 science technology awards in other levels. He published more than 100 papers, was granted 8 invention patents, and published 4 monographs. In 1995, he was elected as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is the member of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Discipline Review Groups of State Council, and the representative of the 6th and 7th Heilongjiang Provincial People's Congress. He is the recipient of National Excellent Teacher Medal, and the commemorative medal for life-time dedication to the ocean.
